I guess I label this under the lost section of the Final Taxi.
I was always a big fan of The Who. I was really excited to learn of the new studio album that they were making. It was 1984’s Who’s Last that was the last LP that they worked on together.
Now
I have had to do research on some of the people I report that have
died. It took months before I found out about B-movie actress Candice Rialson. But lets face it, when The Who’s Pete Townshend wrote about Doris Day being dead in one of his new songs, he really screwed up!
The song is called “Mirror Door” and features lyrics about dead
celebrities including Buddy Holly, Johnny Cash, Bobbie Darin and Elvis Presley. Doris Day is also mentioned in the song.
Actress/singer Doris Day, 82, is
alive and well and living currently in Carmel, California. She is
part-owner of the Cypress Inn there and spends her time as a animal
welfare advocate. In 2004 she turned down an honorary Academy Award and
a Kennedy's Center Honor because of a fear of flying.
A
red-faced Townshend said "I was absolutely convinced she was dead but
then I went to the internet and there she was, with a happening
website." It is too late for Townshend to change the new song which has already gone to press.
It’s ok Pete it happens to the best of us!

Here is some sample lyrics to Mirror Door:
If you don't hear me, how can I tell you
If you don't listen, why should I speak
If you're indifferent, how can I reach you
Just 'cos you're angry don't assume I'm weak
Howling Wolf, and old Link Wray
Dave Van Ronk and Doris Day
Bobby Darin, Brownie McGhee
Elvis, Buddy and Eddie C.
Music makes me, makes me strong
Strong vibrations, make me long
Long for a place where I belong
You will find me in this song.
Who will walk through the mirror door
Will there be music, or will there be war
Will we be rich, or will we be poor
Who will walk through the mirror door ……
Frank 'n' Ella, Ray 'What'd I Say'
Johnny Cash and Johnnie Ray
Amadeus and Ludvig Van
Henry, Johann and the doo dah band. …………….
