The WildVoice Newsletter - Volume 2
Monday, August 14, 2006
Hey Folks,
I guess weather can't be avoided. I managed to leave
town for a bit and went to visit friends in California
just in time to catch the end of the California heat
wave. Then I returned home just in time to catch the
end of the New York heat wave. I guess this month has
just been part of a hot and slow summer. Here's
what's up at WildVoice.com.
Firefox users cry foul!
Talk about heat! We got a fair amount of flame mail
from our Firefox users. It seems that the new
WildVoice 'Shout' web recorder that we introduced
last month had a nasty habit of crashing when used
in Firefox by some people.
I apologize for the frustration our Firefox users endured.
The news today is that we believe we've isolated and
fixed the problems that were causing the crashes. So,
Firefox users, please come back and try it again;
and please let us know how it is working.
How can I record audio for WildVoice.com?
WildVoice provides two recording tools for creating
podcasts or audio comments.
WildVoice Studio
is a free tool for creating Podcasts. It is a
Windows-only application (we figure most Mac
users already have Garage Band anyway). If you
are interested in using WildVoice Studio
think of these three steps:
 Record your show in clips,
mixing in music and sound effects as you talk.
 Edit your clips, cutting out
the parts you don't like.
 WildVoice Studio merges your clips
into a finished show that you can upload to
WildVoice.com.

Users who want a quicker way of recording Podcasts
or posting audio comments can use the WildVoice 'Shout'
Web recorder. This also is Windows only, but we are
hoping to provide a Mac version in the future.

So, presently our recording tools are all Windows-only.
Playback, however, is multiplatform. Our recorders
all create MP3 files and we use Adobe Flash for
our players so playback should work on all major
systems.
Also remember that you can always upload MP3 files
created with other tools directly to WildVoice.com.
Welcome to our new users from the North
This month we had a flurry of new members from Canada.
We have users from all over the world, but we couldn't
figure out why we seemed to be getting an unusually
large number of Canadian members.
We think we solved the mystery when we found we
had new friends at CTV in Toronto. On July 21
WildVoice was mentioned on their WebMania segment.
You can view it by clicking the "Webmania:
July 21, 2006 2:16" link in the
July 21 video section.
WildVoice is the second segment after the commercial.
Time for my nagging for the month
We're thrilled that you've all been posting to
WildVoice, but please remember that WildVoice is
about sharing your own audio work (or works that
you have permission to share). Got a microphone?
Make your own show. Please respect the rights of
artists by not uploading copyrighted works of others.
Keep posting your comments in the
forums
or send us e-mail at support@WildVoice.com.
And remember, talking is loads more fun when
someone is listening, so tell anyone who will
listen all about WildVoice and your posts!
Thanks,
Michael Levy http://www.wildvoice.com/ |
