17 Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. 18 And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord's people. 19 Pray also for me, that whenever I speak, words may be given me so that I will fearlessly make known the mystery of the gospel, 20 for which I am an ambassador in chains. Pray that I may declare it fearlessly, as I should.

This morning's message dealt with money and bondage. Who or what do you serve and honor? It is that to which you are a slave.

One of the scriptures we concentrated on this morning was Romans 7.15ff:
"What I don't understand about myself is that I decide one way, but then I act another, doing things I absolutely despise. So if I can't be trusted to figure out what is best for myself and then do it, it becomes obvious that God's command is necessary.
"But I need something more! For if I know the law but still can't keep it, and if the power of sin within me keeps sabotaging my best intentions, I obviously need help! I realize that I don't have what it takes. I can will it, but I can't do it. I decide to do good, but I don't really do it; I decide not to do bad, but then I do it anyway. My decisions, such as they are, don't result in actions. Something has gone wrong deep within me and gets the better of me every time." (The Message)

Joy grew up in Allendale, MI and began attending Berkley Hills in 1997. She graduated from Indiana Wesleyan University in 2006 as Valedictorian, and has just finished her first year at Princeton Theological Seminary.

"I've always known I was called to serve God, but I thought I could do that as a writer. My call into full-time ministry still suprises me, but also energizes me."

Her hopes for the future include working in a church as an ordained minister and eventually teaching at a Christian university or seminary.
